Our verdict on Nacos
Nacos is a service discovery and configuration management platform for cloud-native and AI applications. It centralizes configuration publishing and querying, while client listeners receive change notifications. Teams can also register and discover services, run health checks, separate environments or tenants with namespaces, and control access through users, roles, and permissions. Its deployment options cover cloud and self-hosted environments, with a free open-source edition alongside the managed Nacos Cloud service.
The published plans separate development from production use. Sandbox is for development and testing and starts at 1C2G with single-node configuration. Professional is for production, starts at 1C2G, and requires a minimum of three nodes. Enterprise targets production and AI businesses, starts at Small.Platinum.x2, and also requires at least three nodes. Eligible users who have not purchased the commercial version can receive a 30-day free trial; that trial is distinct from the free open-source edition. Choose Sandbox for evaluation or development, and move to Professional or Enterprise when clustered production deployment is required.
Nacos is strongest when configuration control and service discovery need to live together. Configuration history, rollback, gray releases, import, export, cloning, runtime updates, rollout controls, and audit logs support controlled change management. Integrations include Spring Cloud, Dubbo, Kubernetes, CoreDNS, Higress, Dify, Spring AI Alibaba, and Nacos MCP Router, with web, desktop, Linux, API, and self-hosted access. Teams wanting a focused configuration store without service discovery may find this broader scope unnecessary, while organizations needing production clustering, environment separation, and access controls have a clear fit. Support is provided through documentation, so teams should be comfortable operating from published guidance.
