Our verdict on Moto Tag app
Moto Tag app is a free Android companion for Motorola’s Moto Tag Bluetooth trackers, suited to people who want to keep tabs on belongings such as keys, bags, and luggage. It is designed around paired Moto Tag hardware, rather than serving as a general phone-locator app. The app shows paired tags and their battery levels, lets users update tag firmware, and can make a tag ring. A button on the tag can also be configured to make the paired phone play a sound.
Finding combines nearby and remote options. Nearby discovery uses Bluetooth Low Energy and, on supported devices, ultra-wideband; UWB availability depends on the paired device and region. For remote location, Moto Tag app connects with Google’s Find My Device network, and users can open Find Device to see a tag on a map. Google Maps is also listed among its integrations. These options make the app most relevant to Android users who already have Moto Tag trackers and want both close-range finding and network-based remote location.
Lost mode lets a user mark a tag as lost and add contact information for its finder. The app is free to download, while the Moto Tag hardware is sold separately. That keeps the app’s role clear: it manages Motorola’s own-brand tags rather than offering broad tracker compatibility. It is a fit for solo Android users who want tag status, ringing, and lost-item tools in one companion app. Those seeking a cross-platform locator or a service that finds a phone without tracker hardware should look elsewhere.
