Our verdict on MotionMark

MotionMark is an open-source, web-based benchmark for measuring browser graphics rendering performance. It is intended for browser engineers, web-platform developers, and teams comparing how browsers handle animated scenes across devices. Workloads cover CSS, SVG, Canvas, HTML text rendering, image operations, and related graphics techniques. The benchmark reports individual test scores and an overall geometric-mean score, making it a focused option for browser graphics analysis rather than a general PC benchmarking suite.

Its strongest feature is configurable workload depth. MotionMark adapts scene complexity according to measured frame rates, then presents time and complexity graphs to show how rendering performance changes. Users can choose small, medium, and large display profiles, configure warm-up and test duration, and set a target frame rate and controller. Custom test profiles and CLI automation add flexibility for repeatable evaluation, while JSON result display and local result loading support comparisons across runs. The web format also allows testing across browsers on a wide variety of devices without treating the product like a conventional installed desktop application.

The main limitation is its narrow scope. MotionMark evaluates browser behavior and graphics workloads, so it should not be the only choice for CPU, storage, memory, gaming, or whole-system PC comparisons. Results also depend on display refresh rate and browser behavior; a 60 Hz refresh rate is advised for cross-browser comparisons. Teams that need detailed browser rendering analysis should pick MotionMark, particularly when configurable scenes and machine-readable results matter. Buyers seeking a broad PC benchmark or an installed application should choose a more comprehensive alternative instead.
