Our verdict on MotionCaster

MotionCaster is desktop live production software from Softworks Inc. for broadcasters and event producers working on Windows or macOS. It combines live video switching and transitions with titles, scoreboards, picture-in-picture, virtual-studio graphics, audio mixing, chroma key and image effects. Production teams can bring in local and network sources, including capture cards, SDI, NDI and RTMP, then stream to multiple destinations while recording video locally in MP4, MOV or MKV.

The published plans use one-time pricing rather than subscriptions. HD Home costs $190 and includes up to 3 camera inputs, HD 1080p60, 3 simultaneous streams, local recording and a built-in title maker. HD Pro costs $290, raises the input limit to 4 cameras and adds 2 simultaneous recordings. 4K Home costs $490 and supports up to 5 camera inputs, 4K 2160p60, 3 simultaneous streams, 3 simultaneous recordings and a built-in macro. At $690, 4K Pro supports up to 6 camera inputs, 6 simultaneous streams, 6 simultaneous recordings, a built-in macro and a PTZ controller.

Its strongest fit is a desktop production workflow that needs more than basic encoding: overlays, audio controls, effects, external and ISO playout, and simultaneous recording are included across the feature set. Integrations include YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Twitch, Dailymotion and Hitbox. The software also supports multi-destination streaming and runs across Windows and macOS. MotionCaster suits producers seeking a one-time purchase for multi-camera HD or 4K work. Buyers needing only simple streaming may not need its broader production controls, while 4K users should choose between the Home and Pro tiers based on camera, stream and recording requirements.
