Our verdict on Monsoon

Monsoon combines DHCP serving and IP address management in a single open-source Go binary for teams that want to run their network tooling themselves. Its scope covers hierarchical subnet management, CIDR operations, address and lease tracking, reservations, VLANs, utilization, discovery scans, conflict detection, audit history, and a React web dashboard. It supports web, Windows, macOS, Linux, API, and self-hosted environments, with DHCPv4, DHCPv6, prefix delegation, stateless mode, relay, client classification, and failover support. Monsoon is aimed at network teams seeking an alternative to separate DHCP and IPAM deployments.

The strongest case for Monsoon is its network-management depth. Scheduled and manual discovery scans can support ongoing inventory work, while duplicate IP and MAC detection addresses common allocation problems. Audit records capture actors, actions, and old/new values, giving administrators a usable history of changes. DDNS updates support forward and reverse records, with TSIG-signed mutations for authenticated DNS changes.
