Our verdict on Mojito
Mojito is an open-source localization platform for software teams that need to move translations through repository-based development workflows. It extracts translatable strings from source resource files, stores them centrally, and generates localized files from translated strings. Its self-hosted web Workbench supports searching, editing, commenting, and changing translation statuses across repositories and languages, making it relevant to teams with translators and reviewers working alongside developers.
Its strongest fit is continuous localization. Mojito provides a CLI and can connect localization steps to continuous-integration pipelines; Jenkins is a named integration. It also supports XLIFF and multiple localization file formats. Teams can reuse previous translations, while integrity checks cover placeholders, message formats, printf specifiers, and whitespace. Those checks and workflow tools suit teams that want to keep translation updates close to software changes, rather than manage localization as a separate manual handoff. The product is self-hosted, so teams should be prepared to operate its web application and CLI in their own environment.
Mojito is open source, and the project is maintained by Box, but it is not a core Box product or commercial offering. There are no published paid tiers to compare; the practical tradeoff is flexibility alongside responsibility for hosting and support. Documentation, community, and email are listed support channels. Choose Mojito if open-source tooling, repository workflows, translation reuse, and validation matter more than a broad set of ready-made integrations. Teams looking for AI translation features or a managed commercial localization service should consider alternatives.
