Mirantis Kubernetes Engine is a self-hosted container orchestration platform for system administrators, DevOps professionals, and platform teams managing Kubernetes across private, public, hybrid-cloud, multi-cloud, and bare-metal environments. The MKE 4 generation uses k0s Kubernetes at its core and combines cluster deployment, declarative configuration, GitOps-based lifecycle management, Kubernetes workload administration, networking, ingress, monitoring, backup and restore, policy control, and web-based resource management. Its air-gapped deployment option makes it especially relevant for organizations operating Kubernetes where external connectivity is restricted.

MKE’s platform fit is defined by its integrated operational components and ecosystem connections. Calico supports container networking, while Prometheus and cAdvisor provide monitoring capabilities. Ingress and Gateway API support address traffic entry, OPA Gatekeeper adds policy control, and Kubernetes RBAC handles authorization. The platform can also manage child clusters from a central mothership cluster, which suits teams responsible for multiple Kubernetes environments. NVIDIA GPU workload support and GPU node discovery extend the platform toward workloads that require dedicated accelerator capacity.
