Our verdict on Microsoft Entra Internet Access
Microsoft Entra Internet Access is a cloud-delivered secure web gateway for organizations that need to control employee access to internet, SaaS, and AI applications. It routes traffic through a security service edge and applies identity-aware policies through Microsoft Entra ID and Conditional Access. Core capabilities include web category, URL, and FQDN filtering, TLS inspection, threat intelligence filtering, network traffic logs and dashboards, HTTP method request filtering, and context-aware access controls. Connections can use desktop clients, mobile clients, or remote network connectivity across web, Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
Pricing is paid and billed annually. The Microsoft Entra Internet Access plan starts at $5 per user per month and covers secure employee access to internet, AI, and SaaS apps, along with protection against internet threats. Microsoft Entra Suite costs $12 per user per month and adds Secure Web and AI Gateway capabilities, continuous adaptive Conditional Access, identity governance, and real-time risk detection. There is no free plan, so it is positioned for organizations ready to adopt a paid security service rather than evaluate through a free tier.
Its clearest advantage is the connection between web filtering and Microsoft identity controls. Integrations with Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Entra Conditional Access, and Microsoft Purview support a Microsoft-centered policy environment, while traffic forwarding, logs, and dashboards extend visibility across internet access. AI usage discovery and AI-aware controls add a focused layer for organizations managing AI application access. Choose it when Microsoft identity and Conditional Access are central to the security model. Organizations seeking a free option, a non-cloud deployment, or support beyond HTTP/HTTPS should consider alternatives.
