Our verdict on MewUI
MewUI is a code-first .NET framework for building desktop interfaces in C# without XAML. It is aimed at developers who want to build for Windows, Linux/X11, and macOS from one framework, including solo developers and small teams. Its fluent markup, common controls, and explicit data binding cover typical interface needs, while NativeAOT and trimming support are intended for self-contained native executables. The framework is free and open source under the MIT license.
MewUI’s development tools are a notable part of its offering. Editor preview is available for Visual Studio, VS Code, and Rider, and hot reload supports changes during development. Runtime visual-tree and property inspection, along with profiler tools, provide ways to examine an application while it runs. These features make the framework more than a set of controls: it includes tooling for composing and inspecting the UI. Developers looking for a C# workflow without XAML may find that combination relevant, especially when targeting desktop rather than mobile.
The trade-off is project maturity: maintainers say the public API is still stabilizing and breaking changes may occur between minor releases. That matters for teams prioritizing a settled API and predictable upgrade work. Support channels are documentation and community, which may not suit organizations that need commercial support. MewUI is a fit for developers comfortable following an actively developed open-source framework and its API changes; teams requiring a stable public API or a support offering beyond documentation and community should consider alternatives.
