mergetrain is an open-source command-line tool for integrating committed branches from parallel coding-agent worktrees. It is aimed at solo developers managing local repositories who want a queue to assemble branches and validate the combined result before Git refs change. Queue state, locking, train assembly, and gates stay on the operator’s machine, so it is a local workflow rather than a hosted pull-request queue or review interface.

Its queue is durable and processes task branches in FIFO order, with batch and ordered modes available. Configured checks run against the assembled train, while isolation runs can help identify which branch pairs conflict. Atomic Git ref updates and recovery and reconciliation for interrupted pushes address the queue’s handling of changes and interruptions. Integrations include Codex, Claude Code, agy, and Git remotes; the tool is available for macOS, Linux, Windows, and self-hosted deployment.

Deployment approval is explicit by default. Optional daemon processing is limited to jobs that have been pre-approved, which keeps automation bounded by operator decisions. The project is MIT licensed and has a free plan. Support channels are community and documentation. This is a fit for an individual who wants local validation across a sequence of coding-agent branches, but not for teams that need forge-native GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket queues, a hosted review interface, or remote runners. Choose it for local train assembly and checks; choose a hosted PR queue when the workflow depends on collaboration in a code-hosting platform.

mergetrain pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • Runs combined checks on branches assembled into a train
    • Isolation runs help identify conflicting branch pairs
    • Recovery and reconciliation address interrupted pushes
  • Where it doesn't
    • Does not support GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket queues
    • Designed for a single operator, not hosted team review
    • Deployment is self-hosted rather than a remote runner service
