Our verdict on MAP Growth Reading
For schools and districts measuring reading achievement across kindergarten through grade 12, MAP Growth Reading is NWEA’s computer-adaptive interim assessment. It adjusts item difficulty to each student and measures foundational skills for emerging readers, as well as comprehension and vocabulary for independent readers. Literary and informational texts are covered, and educators receive reports with RIT scores, instructional areas, and growth data to inform screening, placement, planning, and intervention.
Its reporting and alignment make it relevant to instructional decisions beyond a single reading score. The assessment aligns to state, Common Core, and AERO standards, and reports include growth data and class-to-district performance. English and Spanish forms extend its assessment options, while text-to-speech, screen reader, braille, and keyboard navigation address accessibility needs. Browser-based administration supports remote or onsite testing. Integration options include HMH Performance Suite, HMH Personalized Path, and other instructional, intervention, and data tools.
MAP Growth Reading is included in a MAP Growth K–12 license rather than sold separately, so schools seeking only a standalone reading assessment should account for that licensing structure. NWEA does not publish pricing; according to the vendor’s pricing approach, buyers need to contact sales. The listed support channel is documentation. This product fits schools and districts looking for adaptive measurement across grades, standards alignment, and growth reporting within a broader MAP Growth license. Organizations that need a separately purchasable reading tool or published pricing should consider whether that arrangement suits their procurement process.
