Our verdict on Mago
Mago is an AI video-to-video tool for animation, VFX, film and advertising workflows. It is aimed at production teams that want to apply effects to existing playblasts, previs or live-action footage while preserving motion, timing and performance. Its focus is post-production rather than creating new footage from a text prompt, making it a more relevant fit for teams iterating on shots than for creators seeking a general-purpose video generator.
The effects workflow includes shot relighting with controls for direction, intensity and mood, prompt- or point-based masking for cleanup and removal, and depth- and motion-aware environment blending. Teams can process sequences, track render queues, compare shot versions and retain metadata. PNG sequence, 16-bit EXR and MP4 exports support different handoff needs, while custom model training is intended to support character and environment consistency. Integrations with Nuke, After Effects and Fusion, alongside web, API and self-hosted options, position Mago for existing production pipelines.
The published plans show a Free tier that uses purchased credits to start rendering, with credit mode, five simultaneous video renders and unlimited simultaneous image renders. Pro Plan includes 15,000 monthly credits and two simultaneous video and image renders; its Relaxed mode allows free renders for Mago models.
