Our verdict on Look-see

Look-see is an open-source, self-hostable accessibility audit platform for websites. It is aimed at developers and teams that want to inspect accessibility across multiple surfaces, from crawled pages and rendered browser output to editor workflows and end-to-end user journeys. Its scope covers automated WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 auditing, with checks for visual design, contrast, alt text, readability, paragraph structure, headings, forms, landmarks, metadata, and interaction flows. The platform targets WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 AA, ADA, Section 508, and EN 301 549.

Its strongest fit is a development workflow that needs more than page-level scanning. Look-see combines a website crawler and headless-browser rendering with an Angular dashboard, live audit updates, a Chrome extension for in-page issue detection, and a VS Code extension for WCAG analysis in the editor. A REST crawler API supports broader use, while GitHub Actions provides CI integration. The project also connects with Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Google Cloud Run, Neo4j, and Pusher, and Terraform-based deployment supports running the services on Google Cloud.

The main trade-off is operational ownership. The hosted SaaS version is planned but not live, so current use centers on self-hosting, including a Google Cloud deployment path. The project is also not yet version 1.0. Look-see should suit developers who can manage an open-source deployment and want visual, content, structural, and journey-oriented automated checks in one workflow. Teams seeking verified manual review or remediation guidance should choose a product that provides those services instead.
