Our verdict on Localization OS
Localization OS is a self-hosted translation management system from Patois Labs for teams that need control over localization data, infrastructure and review processes. It covers document and key-based string localization, with an editor and export, and supports machine-translation and LLM engines, including local models. Its broad workflow scope may suit small, mid-market and enterprise organizations, but it is less suitable for teams seeking a hosted service or a publicly priced subscription.
The system’s localization controls combine exact, fuzzy and optional semantic translation memory, TMX import and export, approved glossaries with TBX support, and ordered workflows. Those workflows can sequence translation, quality checks, memory matching, human review and external vendor steps. Quality-engineering gates score segment checks and can optionally auto-fix issues. This makes Localization OS a fit for teams that want translation automation paired with explicit terminology and quality controls, rather than a narrower tool focused only on handing strings to translators.
Integration and deployment choices are central to the product. Connectors include Airtable, Jira, Strapi, Contentful, Shopify, HubSpot, Akeneo and WordPress, with S3-compatible storage and Databricks also listed. REST API, CLI and MCP access support headless automation. Organizations run it in their own environment using Docker or Python, with SQLite or PostgreSQL; audit logging, SAML/OIDC SSO, SCIM provisioning and encryption at rest are included capabilities. According to the published license terms, the company-wide source-delivered license is paid once and includes three years of updates, with renewal afterward; the price is quote-based. Choose it when self-hosting and workflow controls matter, but consider alternatives if you need a hosted product or transparent public pricing.
