Our verdict on Lit Mind Maps
Lit Mind Maps is a web-based literature research tool for Masters and PhD students who need to explore academic papers in plain language. Users can ask questions or search by paper title, DOI, or arXiv ID. The product returns grounded answers with citations and can generate three-branch literature mind maps, idea timelines, citation maps showing references and citing papers, and Word starting drafts. Its role is to help users understand a topic and begin structuring a literature review rather than produce a finished thesis chapter.
Pricing is straightforward. The Free plan includes two chats. The Monthly plan costs US$15 per month and adds grounded answers, literature mind maps, idea timelines, citation maps, and Word starting-draft export. According to the published plans, the paid tier is most relevant to students and researchers who need the product's full set of discovery and drafting aids rather than occasional question-based exploration. Its web-only delivery keeps the workflow centered on browser-based research and exported Word drafts.
The strongest fit is early-stage literature discovery: users can move from a plain-language question to connected papers, themes, timelines, and citation relationships. The product is less suitable for formal evidence synthesis, because it does not provide verified screening, full-text management, systematic review tools, or collaboration features. It also states that it does not read the full text of every paper and is not a full-text PRISMA 2020 review. Choose Lit Mind Maps for a structured starting point when mapping a field and developing review ideas; choose an alternative when audit-ready screening, complete full-text workflows, or team-based review management are central requirements.
