Our verdict on KubeClipper
KubeClipper is an Apache-2.0 open-source Kubernetes management platform from 99cloud. It combines a web console, APIs, and a command-line tool for teams operating Kubernetes on cloud, hypervisor, bare-metal, and other customer-managed infrastructure. Its focus is the cluster lifecycle: provisioning through a wizard-style interface, scaling, deletion, upgrades, backup and restoration, remote access, plugin management, and external-cluster registration. The platform is suited to self-hosted teams that want visual management while retaining control of their deployment environment.
Its platform and ecosystem fit are broad. KubeClipper supports online, proxy, and offline deployment modes, including private registry support, which accommodates connected and restricted environments. It works with kubeadm, Calico, Docker, containerd, NFS, MinIO, and OIDC, and provides management services for CRI, CNI, CSI, and CRD components. Centralized management covers clusters and nodes across multiple regions, while node operations include registration, information collection, terminal access, and lifecycle actions. OIDC-based authentication and role-based access control with custom roles and permissions add identity and access controls for shared environments.
The product’s breadth is its main distinction, bringing provisioning, operations, backup, restoration, upgrades, and external-cluster management into one self-hosted platform. Backup and restoration cover etcd data and Kubernetes resource objects, and the published capabilities include Kubernetes version upgrade management. That scope can suit infrastructure teams managing varied environments, but it also leaves the control plane customer-managed and places deployment and operational responsibility with the adopting team. Organizations seeking a managed control plane or a narrowly focused Kubernetes interface should consider alternatives aligned with those needs. KubeClipper fits teams that value deployment flexibility, lifecycle coverage, and open-source control over a hosted service model.
