Our verdict on Kepla

Kepla is a Mac application for photographers reviewing large shoots, including weddings, events, sport, portraits, studio work, live music and wildlife. It runs locally and offline while copying a card, groups burst and visually similar frames, and sets aside plainly unusable images without deleting originals. Detection covers closed eyes, missed focus, very dark or blown frames, and empty frames. Review decisions remain with the photographer, with reasons shown for set-aside frames.

Pricing is divided between individual and team use. The Founding plan costs $99 per year, with that price kept for as long as founding customers keep the app. Solo costs $15 per month with annual billing or $19 per month with monthly billing, and includes unlimited cards and frames, use on every Mac owned, the Lightroom plugin and sidecars, and decision syncing to an iPhone. Studio costs $32 per seat per month annually or $39 per seat per month monthly. It adds the Solo features for every seat, merged second-shooter cards in one timeline, and shared clients, events and delivery states.

Kepla fits photographers who want a focused culling workflow rather than a broader photo management system. XMP sidecar writing supports non-destructive review, while integrations with Adobe Lightroom Classic, Capture One and Adobe Bridge help connect culling with established tools. The trade-offs are clear: the application is limited to macOS, has no free plan, and the paid app is in private preview rather than available for purchase. Mac photographers who value local offline processing and Lightroom Classic integration should consider it; teams needing shared workflow features can look to Studio, while photographers on other platforms should choose an alternative.
