Our verdict on Juniper Apstra

Juniper Apstra, now documented as HPE Networking Apstra Data Center Director, is software for designing, deploying, operating, and assuring data-center networks. It is intended for enterprise, service-provider, and telecommunications teams managing physical or virtual infrastructure. The platform turns high-level intent into vendor-specific configurations, maintains a contextual graph database as a single source of truth, and continuously validates network state. Its scope covers multivendor switching environments, lifecycle management, telemetry, analytics, policy assurance, rollback, data-center interconnect, and automation integrations.

The product’s clearest fit is teams that need intent-based control across data-center fabrics rather than a narrow device-management tool. Core capabilities include automated configuration generation, continuous assurance, Time Voyager configuration and network-state rollback, ACL generation with conflict handling, VXLAN stitching, server database backup and restore, and flow visibility. REST APIs and API Explorer support programmatic workflows, while Terraform and Ansible integrations connect the platform to automation practices. VMware NSX-T, VMware vCenter, and Juniper Data Center Assurance are also supported integrations.

Plans separate capacity and assurance depth. Standard provides one blueprint per instance, basic telemetry and intent-based analytics, device and platform management, and a six-month Advanced trial. Advanced expands to up to three blueprints per instance and adds advanced analytics, streaming telemetry, root-cause identification, data-center interconnect, and a custom telemetry collector. Premium supports more than three blueprints per instance and adds third-party vendor fabrics, policy assurance, Flow Insights, and Data Center Assurance. Licensing is sold through sales in 1-, 3-, or 5-year terms per managed device. Choose Apstra for centralized intent, validation, and automation across complex data-center networks; teams wanting a free plan or a non-self-hosted deployment should look elsewhere.
