  • Where it wins

    • 64 subtests cover JavaScript, WebAssembly, workers, async, and parsing.
    • A geometric-mean score provides one summary result across the suite.
    • Command-line execution supports repeatable benchmark automation.
  • Where it doesn't

    • Web-only scope limits it to browser and JavaScript-engine performance.
    • It is not designed to measure general PC hardware performance.
    • Scores from JetStream 2.1 and 2.2 are not comparable with other versions.

Our verdict on JetStream 2

JetStream 2 is an open-source, browser-based benchmark suite from WebKit for evaluating JavaScript and WebAssembly performance. It suits developers, browser engineers, and teams comparing browser or JavaScript-engine behavior rather than measuring general PC hardware. The suite contains 64 subtests spanning JavaScript parsing, simulations, Unicode regular expressions, Web Workers, Promises, async iteration, DataView workloads, and WebAssembly execution. Results are combined into a single score using a geometric mean, while individual tests provide more specific measurements.

Its main strength is workload depth within a narrow browser-performance focus. JetStream 2 separates startup, worst-case, and average-case JavaScript measurements, and also covers WebAssembly startup and runtime performance. That range gives buyers more than one headline number when investigating how an engine handles different execution patterns. Command-line benchmark execution adds a practical route for automation, while the web platform keeps the benchmark aligned with browser-based testing. The published deployment is cloud-based, and documentation and community channels provide the listed support options.

The trade-off is scope. JetStream 2 does not cover broad PC hardware benchmarking, and its web-only delivery makes it a specialist choice rather than a general desktop benchmark. Version discipline also matters: the unversioned URL now serves JetStream 3.0, while the official JetStream 2.2 page remains available at a versioned URL; JetStream 2.1 and 2.2 scores should not be compared with other JetStream versions. Choose JetStream 2 for browser JavaScript and WebAssembly analysis with detailed subtests and command-line execution. Choose an alternative for whole-system PC measurements or cross-version score comparisons.
