Our verdict on Huawei Host Security Service

Huawei Host Security Service (HSS) protects servers and containers across Huawei Cloud, third-party clouds, private clouds, and data centers. It is designed for teams that need cloud workload protection spanning vulnerability scanning, security baselines, intrusion detection, antivirus, ransomware prevention, web tamper protection, and container image security. HSS is managed through Huawei Cloud and uses agents on protected servers or containers, with web, Linux, Windows, and self-hosted support.

The published plans separate protection by workload and security need. Basic includes system vulnerability detection, weak-password detection, and two intrusion-detection types. Professional adds system and Web-CMS vulnerability detection, one-click vulnerability fixing, and 20+ intrusion-detection types. Premium adds application vulnerability detection, ransomware prevention, and 35+ intrusion-detection types. The Container plan focuses on container image vulnerability scanning, container baseline checks, and container runtime intrusion detection. Web Tamper Protection adds web tamper protection alongside application vulnerability detection and 35+ intrusion-detection types. Huawei Cloud documentation states that the Basic edition includes a 30-day free trial, while the service uses paid billing with monthly/yearly or pay-per-use options.

HSS fits environments that need a broad combination of server and container controls rather than vulnerability scanning alone. Its ecosystem includes Huawei Cloud ECS, BMS, Workspace, and CCE, plus Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Microsoft Cloud, and other third-party clouds. The product also supports hybrid deployment and includes a container firewall. However, teams prioritizing cloud security posture management, identity security, or attack-path analysis should consider alternatives with stronger verified coverage in those areas. Choose HSS for consolidated workload protection across varied cloud and data-center environments; choose another platform when those cloud-native security capabilities are central requirements.
