Our verdict on Huawei Cloud Elastic Volume Service (EVS)

Huawei Cloud Elastic Volume Service (EVS) provides virtual block storage for Huawei Cloud servers through web and REST API access. It supports system and data disks across workloads such as databases, development and testing, distributed file systems, data warehouses, high-performance computing, and enterprise clustered applications. The service is aimed at teams already operating with Elastic Cloud Server, Bare Metal Server, and Huawei Cloud's wider infrastructure services, particularly when storage performance needs to be matched to workload requirements.

EVS offers multiple volume types with different IOPS, throughput, and latency characteristics. General Purpose SSD V2 supports configurable IOPS and throughput, with up to 128,000 IOPS per disk. Extreme SSD also reaches up to 128,000 IOPS, while Ultra-high I/O supports up to 50,000 IOPS and General Purpose SSD supports up to 20,000 IOPS. Online expansion applies to system and data disks, while snapshots support point-in-time recovery and disk creation. Shared disks can attach to up to 16 cloud servers, making the service relevant to clustered applications and shared-storage designs.

Operational controls extend beyond volume provisioning. XTS-AES-256 encryption uses KMS keys through Data Encryption Workshop, Cloud Backup and Recovery supports disk backups, Cloud Eye provides monitoring, and Cloud Trace Service records operations for auditing. The published product details also describe backup and restoration for in-use EVS disks through Cloud Backup and Recovery. EVS is a strong fit for Huawei Cloud deployments that need high I/O options, expansion, snapshots, and API-based resource management. Teams seeking a free tier or a storage service outside the Huawei Cloud ecosystem should consider alternatives instead.
