Our verdict on Hatchbox

Hatchbox is a hosted application deployment and server-management platform for developers and teams running applications on their own infrastructure. It provisions and manages servers and clusters, deploys applications from Git repositories, and supports Rails, Ruby, Node.js, Go, and static-site applications. Its feature set covers process management for web, worker, cron, and app roles; database management for PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and SQLite; environment variables; domains; SSL; cron scheduling; and deployment logs. It fits small businesses, side projects, and teams seeking a Heroku-like workflow while retaining control of their servers.

Pricing is straightforward but entirely paid. The Standard plan costs $15 USD per server per month, billed monthly, and includes unlimited applications, unlimited team members, zero-downtime deployments, hosted Hatchbox domains, custom domains and SSL, and human support. A seven-day free trial is available. Because billing is per server, the plan suits teams that want a focused deployment layer around infrastructure they already own or provision through supported providers. It is less suitable for buyers looking for a free tier or a broader endpoint deployment product.

Hatchbox connects with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket for source repositories, and with DigitalOcean, Hetzner, AWS, Linode, and Vultr for infrastructure. AppSignal, Honeybadger, and Slack extend its monitoring and notification connections. The REST API covers applications, servers, databases, and deployments, while automatic SSL and Caddy routing, streaming logs, and zero-downtime releases support ongoing application delivery. Choose Hatchbox when server ownership, Git-based releases, and application operations are central requirements. Consider another category of tool when deployment must target endpoints rather than web applications on Linux servers.
