Our verdict on Greenhost
Greenhost is a Netherlands-based hosting provider for websites and online services that need PHP hosting, email storage and MySQL databases. Its shared web-hosting plans are available through the web, with Linux and API access also listed as supported platforms. The service is positioned around renewable energy, carbon offsetting and infrastructure resilience, making it a fit for customers who want conventional hosting capabilities with an environmental focus. Servers are located in the Netherlands, and Greenhost states that its infrastructure uses Dutch wind energy.
The published annual plans scale storage, data limits, email storage and database capacity. Basic costs €62.82 per year excluding VAT and includes 1 GiB storage, a 10 GiB monthly data limit, 3 GiB email storage and five MySQL databases. Professional costs €132.17 per year and raises those allowances to 5 GiB, 50 GiB, 15 GiB and 20 databases. Premium costs €233.39 per year, with 10 GiB storage, 200 GiB monthly data, 25 GiB email storage and 30 MySQL databases. All three plans include PHP hosting, while the service also offers VPS products billed monthly.
Greenhost’s strongest distinction is the combination of operational safeguards and environmental positioning. Features include SSD storage with threefold redundancy, daily backups, load balancing, failover, Let's Encrypt TLS certificates, SSH and SFTP access, and a WordPress auto-installer. These capabilities suit small websites, WordPress projects and other PHP applications that benefit from backups and continuity features. Customers needing more storage or data capacity can move to Professional or Premium, while those requiring a VPS or managed service should consider Greenhost’s other offerings rather than the shared plans. Basic is the clearest fit for smaller sites with modest limits.
