Our verdict on Gravitee API Management

Gravitee API Management is a platform for designing, deploying, securing, governing, publishing, and monitoring APIs. It supports REST, GraphQL, gRPC, event streams, and protocol mediation, with tools for synchronous and asynchronous APIs. Hybrid teams can use its API Gateway, management console, management API, and customizable Developer Portal to manage access, documentation, subscriptions, authentication, quotas, and rate limits across web, Windows, Linux, API, and self-hosted environments.

Pricing is structured around a free plan, a 14-day Gravitee Cloud trial, and paid tiers. Planet costs $2,500 per month and includes unlimited users, unlimited APIs under management, 1 production gateway, Gold support, and Agent Catalog. Galaxy adds a second production gateway, enterprise plugins, and hybrid or managed deployment while retaining unlimited users, unlimited APIs, and Gold support; pricing requires contacting sales. Universe supports 4+ production gateways, unlimited enterprise functionality, Identity and Access Management, and 24/7 support, with pricing also requiring contact with sales.

Its broad feature set suits organizations that need more than a gateway: API products can bundle multiple APIs, shared policy groups cover security, transformation, and traffic rules, and analytics provide dashboards, usage metrics, error rates, and latency monitoring. Federation supports third-party gateways and brokers including AWS API Gateway, Azure API Management, Apigee X, IBM API Connect, Solace, Confluent Platform, and MuleSoft Anypoint. Choose Gravitee when hybrid deployment, federation, lifecycle governance, and a free starting option matter. Teams seeking a low-cost paid deployment or more than one production gateway on the entry paid tier should look elsewhere.
