goTransfer is a self-hosted managed file transfer system for organizations that exchange files with employees, customers, suppliers and other external partners. It runs on Windows Server and provides a Windows desktop console distributed to users by an administrator. The product supports private file transfer servers, drag-and-drop file and folder transfers, password protection, user privileges and transfer logs. Its multi-channel transfer design is intended for unreliable networks, while 256-bit AES encryption protects transfers in transit. Small teams that want direct control over file exchange are the clearest fit.

Pricing is offered on a freemium model, with a free plan and annual paid packs priced per 25 users. MFT Professional Server costs £195 per 25-user pack annually and includes a built-in Firebird database. MFT Business Server costs £395 per 25-user pack annually and can work with SQL Server. The paid editions therefore separate database requirements more than end-user transfer basics: Professional suits organizations using Firebird, while Business is aimed at teams that need SQL Server compatibility. The published plans keep the entry point straightforward for smaller deployments.

Platform fit is goTransfer’s main boundary. Its Windows-only server and desktop console make it practical for teams already operating a Windows environment, but less suitable for organizations seeking broader operating-system coverage. The product focuses on private transfers, access control and audit visibility rather than integrations, verified API access or workflow automation. That narrower scope favors small teams with basic managed file transfer needs and an administrator-led rollout. Organizations that need connected business applications, scheduled automation or a wider ecosystem should choose a broader MFT platform instead.
