Gitar is an AI code-review and change-verification service from Sonar: SonarSource acquired it on May 21, 2026 and keeps it available as a standalone product. Its founders previously built developer infrastructure at Uber. Gitar reads each pull or merge request with the repository's context and the team's conventions, and works with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps.
It goes past review comments. Gitar posts one consolidated review and a pull-request summary, classifies CI failures, retries flaky tests, writes fixes to the branch and keeps iterating until the pipeline passes. Teams set what it reviews, fixes or blocks with plain-English rules in a .gitar/rules file, and it connects to eight CI systems: GitHub Actions, GitLab Pipelines, CircleCI, Buildkite, Bitrise, Harness, TeamCity and Jenkins. Published testimonials come from SoFi, Altruist, Shef, Sphinx, Collate's OpenMetadata project and Uber's Cadence project.
Security is documented: Sonar says Gitar retains no source code, does not train models on customer code and works under zero-data-retention agreements, and it reports SOC 2, ISO 27001 and GDPR status. Setup is a GitHub App install and a choice of repositories.
Core costs $20 per user per month and Pro $40, billed annually, with a 14-day Pro trial that needs no card. Enterprise pricing is custom, and Gitar is free for open source.
Choose Gitar for code review that fixes what it finds and verifies the fix against CI before merge.
