Our verdict on GB-EMU

GB-EMU is an open-source emulator for Game Boy and Game Boy Color software. It is aimed at users who want browser-based play or a Samsung Tizen TV application, especially for casual sessions using a TV remote or standard gamepad. The project is written in C++17 and compiled with Emscripten/WebAssembly for browser execution. It is free to use and intended for educational and testing purposes, with users supplying legally obtained ROMs.

Platform fit is the defining strength. The published feature set covers desktop web browsers and Samsung Tizen TVs, with ROM loading from USB storage or over Wi-Fi. On Samsung TVs, remote-control mapping provides an input option beyond standard gamepad support. Save and restore states add practical flexibility for returning to a game without relying only on the original save flow. These capabilities make GB-EMU more suited to TV-based and browser-based access than to users seeking a broad, multi-system emulator.

The scope is deliberately narrow: support centers on Game Boy (DMG) and Game Boy Color (GBC), rather than a wider set of systems. The project is also explicitly marked as work in progress, so it fits users comfortable with an independent open-source project and its educational focus. Choose GB-EMU if Samsung Tizen TV support, browser execution, USB or Wi-Fi ROM loading, and simple controller options are the priorities. Choose an alternative if you need broader system coverage or a project outside a work-in-progress stage.
