Our verdict on Folx
Folx is a macOS download manager and torrent client for people who handle direct files, torrents, and magnet links on a Mac. It combines browser integration with automatic resume, scheduling, smart tagging, proxy support, password saving, and download speed controls. Folx requires macOS 10.13 or later and is available as desktop software, with a free version alongside paid plans for individual and family use.
The Free plan covers core download management with browser integration, automatic resuming, two-thread download splitting, proxy support, and smart tagging. The Personal License costs $19.95 as a one-time payment for one Mac and adds PRO download manager features. The Family Pack also includes PRO download manager features for three Macs. Folx supports multi-threaded downloads of up to 20 threads, plus scheduling and bandwidth controls, giving the paid version more room for users managing larger or more frequent downloads.
Its strongest fit is the Mac browser workflow: Folx integrates with Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome, while also supporting built-in torrent search and Apple Music integration. It is less suitable for people who need a Windows or cross-platform download manager, or who specifically want YouTube video downloads; its documented video downloading uses direct links or torrents instead. Choose Folx if macOS support, torrent handling, browser capture, and a one-time personal license align with your workflow. Consider an alternative if platform coverage or YouTube downloading is a priority.
