Our verdict on Folder Size
Folder Size is a Windows desktop disk space analyzer from MindGems. It scans folders, drives, external storage, network locations, NAS, SAN, and shared storage, then presents file and folder sizes in sortable tables, bar charts, and pie charts. Its audience is Windows users who need to locate large files and folders across more than just a local drive, including shared or networked storage. Windows Explorer context-menu scanning, saved scan data, and comparison tools add practical ways to revisit disk-usage information.
The pricing structure is straightforward. The Free edition includes folder and file size analysis, disk usage charts, and local and external drive scanning, with no trial period or feature lockouts. Personal costs $24.95 as a one-time purchase and provides a feature-limited lifetime license, registered-user support, and minor version updates. Professional costs $39.95 one time and adds a professional lifetime license, command-line automation, and advanced reporting and export. Corporate costs $499 one time for a corporate/site lifetime license covering unlimited computers within the organization.
Folder Size’s main strength is breadth within Windows storage analysis: it combines shared-storage scanning with charts, largest-file and folder reports, CSV/XML/Excel-compatible exports, saved comparisons, and scheduled automation. That makes it a fit for individuals, administrators, and organizations that need recurring or report-oriented scans rather than a simple view of one drive. The narrower fit is its Windows-only desktop scope. Users seeking a tool for another platform should choose an alternative, while Windows users needing network, NAS, SAN, or shared-storage visibility have a focused option with a free entry point and broader paid licensing.
