Our verdict on Finite State Platform

Finite State Platform focuses on product security and software supply-chain security for connected-device manufacturers. It brings firmware, binary, source-code, container, supplier SBOM, and third-party finding analysis into workflows spanning product security, engineering, compliance, and release operations. The emphasis suits teams responsible for embedded software and device releases, particularly when inventories and compliance evidence need to cover components beyond conventional application source code.

Its coverage extends across C/C++, Rust, Java, Python, and other languages, along with operating systems including FreeRTOS, QNX, Zephyr, VxWorks, and Embedded Linux. Supported artifact formats range from ELF, PE, and Mach-O to APK, OCI, HEX, and BIN. The platform can generate SBOMs and ingest supplier SBOMs, assess whether vulnerabilities are reachable, enrich findings with vulnerability and exploit intelligence, and track VEX dispositions. Architecture threat modeling and security-requirements traceability add a planning dimension. For engineering workflows, it offers CI/CD policy checks and release gates, continuous vulnerability monitoring, and automated source-code pull requests with PR-ready diffs. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, REST API, and GraphQL API are listed integrations.

According to the vendor’s pricing page, pricing is handled through a demo or formal quote rather than published plan prices; project limits are also not published. Buyers therefore need to speak with sales to assess costs and fit. That process may be appropriate for organizations evaluating a broad product-security program, but teams looking for a transparent self-serve price should consider alternatives. Finite State is the stronger fit when device-specific artifacts, supplier components, vulnerability disposition, and release controls belong in one workflow; it is less suited to teams seeking only a lightweight source-code scanner.
