FileLocator Pro review
A deep Windows search tool with perpetual licensing and broad file-format coverage.

FileLocator Pro is a Windows desktop search tool from Mythicsoft Ltd for professionals who need to locate information across local and network files. It searches both file names and contents, including PDF, Office documents, text files, compressed archives, and Outlook PST/MSG data. Email, contacts, and calendar items are supported, while OCR extends search to scanned documents and images. Its audience includes Windows users managing mixed file collections, shared locations, email archives, and document-heavy workflows that need more than basic file-name search.
Pricing is based on perpetual licenses rather than subscriptions. The Standard License costs $79 one time per licensed named user and permits up to three Windows installations for that user. The Technician License costs $142 one time per named user and allows unlimited Windows installations per named user. The Floating License costs $206 one time per concurrent user and is licensed for concurrent users. A 30-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan. For teams with established licensing needs, the three options distinguish personal installations, technician access, and shared concurrent use without recurring billing.
FileLocator Pro’s depth is its main reason to choose it. Search results can be highlighted, previewed, browsed, reported, printed, or exported, and indexes can be configured and shared. Indexed and non-indexed searching supports different workflows, while command-line, .NET, COM, and Visual Studio integration gives developers ways to connect search with existing Windows tools. The trade-off is platform scope: this is a Windows-only product, so teams requiring a cross-platform desktop search layer should choose an alternative. It is a strong fit for Windows professionals who value broad content coverage, OCR, email search, and integration options over a lightweight search utility.
