Our verdict on Exoscale Compute
Exoscale Compute provides KVM-based virtual machines for developers, startups, enterprises, and data teams. It supports selectable CPU, memory, storage, and GPU configurations across standard, CPU-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and GPU instance families. Instances run in European cloud zones and can be managed through the Portal, CLI, API, Terraform, or Ansible. The product fits teams that need control over machine shape, placement, networking, and deployment automation rather than a simplified application-hosting workflow.
The published billing model is paid, pay-as-you-go, with per-second compute billing. Storage and network usage are metered separately, so teams should account for more than the virtual machine rate when estimating costs. No free plan is included. The available configurations give buyers room to match resources to workloads, while custom templates and point-in-time snapshots support repeatable provisioning and recovery workflows. Instance Pools provide managed groups of Compute instances with dynamic scaling, and Network Load Balancers add TCP/UDP support and health checks.
Exoscale Compute also emphasizes infrastructure control. Security Groups govern inbound and outbound traffic, private L2 networking connects Compute instances, and anti-affinity groups and dedicated-hypervisor deployment targets address placement requirements. Kubernetes, Cloud-Init, Terraform, Ansible, the CLI, Portal, and API provide several ways to fit the service into existing operations. Choose it when specialized VM families, GPU options, private networking, or infrastructure-as-code matter. Teams seeking a free tier or a more application-focused hosting experience should consider a different type of service.
