Our verdict on Espressif-IDE
Espressif-IDE is a standalone Eclipse CDT-based development environment for embedded developers building IoT applications with Espressif's ESP-IDF framework, including projects for the ESP32 family. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and supports C and C++. Its focus is firmware and embedded-device work, not mobile-app development or a general-purpose IDE workflow. The project is open source under the Eclipse Public License 2.0, and a free plan is listed.
The toolchain workflow brings several stages into one desktop environment: project wizards include ESP-IDF example templates, a visual editor handles Kconfig and SDK settings, and CMake-based builds are supported.
