Our verdict on Epic Games Launcher
Epic Games Launcher is a free desktop application for browsing, downloading, installing, updating, and launching games from the Epic Games Store. It is aimed primarily at individual Windows and macOS gamers who want one account-based library for their Epic titles. The launcher supports library filters and collections, making it easier to organize installed and uninstalled games, while its library provides direct access to game installation and launch controls.
The pricing model is straightforward: Epic Games Launcher is free, with no paid desktop tier described. Its core offering includes access to the Epic Games Library, library management, game collections, cloud saves for compatible games, and per-game automatic updates. Controller support is included, while mod support is not. This makes the launcher a practical fit for players who want basic game management without a separate subscription or upgrade path.
Its ecosystem fit is a key consideration. Epic Games Launcher supports titles that use additional publisher launchers, so some games may involve another launcher alongside Epic's application. Cloud saves also apply to compatible games rather than every title. Players focused on Epic Games Store games and standard download, update, organization, and launch features should find the feature set aligned with that use case. Those seeking mod support or a broader desktop platform range should choose an alternative that covers those needs.
