Our verdict on Envshed

Envshed is a hosted secrets management platform for indie developers, startups, and small engineering teams. It stores encrypted environment variables across organizations, projects, and environments, with access through a web dashboard, CLI, REST API, and Node.js SDK. The product supports secret management across web, macOS, Linux, Windows, and API workflows. Its free Developer plan is aimed at solo developers and pairs, while paid plans expand collaboration and administration.

Pricing is straightforward. The Developer plan costs $0 and supports up to 2 members, up to 3 projects, unlimited secrets, AES-256-GCM encryption, and CLI and API access. The Team plan costs $5 per user per month, billed monthly, and adds unlimited members and projects, webhooks, service tokens for CI/CD, and audit logs. The Business plan costs $9 per user per month, billed monthly, and adds SAML SSO and priority support. A 14-day free trial is also available. For teams that need encrypted storage, deployment access, and collaboration without a large per-user commitment, this structure is easy to understand.

Its standout strength is the breadth of practical delivery workflows for smaller engineering teams. The CLI can pull, push, run, and manage secrets; service tokens can be scoped for CI/CD and infrastructure; and GitHub Actions, Docker, Coolify, the Node.js SDK, and the REST API cover several common paths. Monorepo workspace detection, per-user overrides, versioning, snapshots, rollback, expiration warnings, and tamper-proof audit logging add useful operational control. Envshed is a good fit for teams prioritizing affordable hosted management and CI/CD injection. Teams needing verified rotation, dynamic secrets, or Kubernetes integration should choose a product with those capabilities.
