Our verdict on Emerson SmartSet CKS1521
For bedside use, the Emerson SmartSet CKS1521 combines a digital clock, two independent alarms, FM radio, and Bluetooth audio playback. It suits people who want separate wake times, flexible weekday or weekend schedules, and a radio or buzzer alarm in one physical clock. Its USB port also provides mobile-device charging, while snooze and a programmable sleep-to-music timer cover common bedtime and morning routines.
Radio and audio are a notable part of the CKS1521’s appeal. FM tuning is digital, with 20 station presets, and Bluetooth 5.1 lets it play audio from a paired device. The sleep-to-music timer is useful for listeners who want audio to stop after a set period; waking options are radio or buzzer. This makes the clock a better fit for bedside radio and Bluetooth listening than for someone seeking a device centered on other audio sources.
SmartSet sets the date and time when the clock is plugged in and after power interruptions, while an included button-cell battery retains time and alarm settings. The orange LED display has three dimming levels and an automatic dimmer, giving buyers options for nighttime visibility. The backup is for clock and alarm settings rather than continued radio playback, so it should not be treated as a power source for the clock’s audio functions. Choose the CKS1521 for its combination of dual alarms, FM, Bluetooth, and charging; look elsewhere if your priority is an alarm clock with wake options beyond radio or buzzer.
