Our verdict on Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a choice-driven, turn-based role-playing game from Larian Studios, set in the world of Rivellon. Players can create a character or choose from six origin characters, then explore and make choices that affect the story. Its tactical focus makes it a fit for RPG players who enjoy planning around skills, elemental interactions, and the environment. Solo play is supported, as is cooperative play for up to four players, so it can suit both individual campaigns and smaller groups.
Combat is built around turn-based tactics, with skills and elemental interactions shaping encounters. The game lists over 200 skills across 12 skill schools, giving character development a substantial role in how players approach battles. Online and split-screen multiplayer offer two ways to play with others. That breadth suits groups looking for a cooperative RPG, though the four-player cap and turn-based format make it a less natural choice for larger groups or players seeking a different combat style.
For players interested in creating adventures as well as playing them, Game Master mode supports crafting adventures, while Steam Workshop supports campaigns and mods. The game is available for Windows and macOS as a desktop title. It is a paid product with a listed base game, and its support channels are documentation and community. Choose it if tactical combat, character choices, co-op, or player-created content are central to what you want from an RPG. Consider another game if you need a non-desktop platform, a larger co-op group, or a different combat approach.
