Our verdict on DiskMapper
DiskMapper is a native macOS disk-space analyzer for people who want a visual way to understand and clean storage. It scans internal disks, external drives, and folders, then presents results through sunburst and treemap views. Drill-down navigation, breadcrumbs, and back/forward controls help users move through storage, while Categories groups content into types such as Applications, Documents, Photos, and Videos. The Free plan includes the complete listed feature set, including cleanup actions for selected files.
Its strongest fit is visual storage analysis. The Biggest Files panel lists the largest files on a volume, while System Junk detection adds confidence levels to help distinguish potential cleanup candidates. Users can select items across views and send them to Trash, remove local iCloud copies, or move or copy files elsewhere. Full Disk Access onboarding and per-source access warnings explain where macOS permissions are needed, which matters when scanning protected locations or external media.
DiskMapper is distributed as a signed, notarized direct download and does not require an account or use telemetry. It is offered as free donationware, with no paid tier described. The trade-off is platform and release scope: it requires macOS 26 Tahoe or later and Apple silicon, and it is currently a public beta listed as version 0.9.2. Mac users who want free, visual disk analysis and basic cleanup should find the feature set well aligned; users needing cross-platform access, an Intel Mac option, or a mature non-beta release should choose an alternative.
