DigitalOcean Spaces is a managed, bucket-based object storage service for developers, startups, small and medium-sized businesses, and applications that store or serve unstructured data. Typical uses include images, videos, backups, static website assets, software files, and datasets. It provides web and API access, an S3-compatible API, multipart uploads for objects up to 5 TB, object versioning, lifecycle rules, access controls, and a built-in CDN. The combination suits teams that want storage and content delivery in one service without assembling separate products.

Spaces has one published plan: Spaces Standard Storage costs $5 per month and includes 250 GiB of storage, 1,024 GiB of outbound transfer, and multiple buckets per subscription. There is no free plan. The service fits common S3-based workflows through AWS S3 SDKs, AWS CLI, s3cmd, Cyberduck, and Terraform. Standard Storage and Cold Storage classes provide storage options, while lifecycle rules can automatically expire objects and clean up incomplete multipart uploads. Access policies, ACLs, and logs for private and CDN-served public content add useful administration and visibility features.

Its clearest strength is the balance between straightforward storage and delivery features: versioning, multipart uploads, access controls, lifecycle automation, and CDN support cover a broad set of application and asset-hosting needs. Teams that need a simple managed S3-compatible service with a fixed monthly entry tier should consider Spaces. It is a weaker fit for architectures that require built-in replication, since no built-in replication scope is provided. Buckets also cannot be moved directly between regions; DigitalOcean documents cross-region transfers using a third-party tool. Choose an alternative when replication or direct regional migration is a core requirement.
