Our verdict on dget
dget is an open-source command-line domain availability checker written in Go. It is designed for developers and technical users who want local, scriptable domain research across Linux, macOS, and Windows. Individual checks cover single domains, while bulk workflows accept domain-name files, TLD files, or combinations of base names and TLDs. Repeated or comma-separated command-line values add another way to supply search inputs without relying on a hosted interface.
Its strongest fit is domain variation research at the command line. dget can combine base names with top-level domains, and its documented category capabilities include advanced domain variations and bulk upload through file-based input. Concurrent lookups with configurable concurrency can support larger searches, while options for verbosity, retries, timeouts, and TLD selection provide control over how searches run. Multiple domain-registration checking methods add flexibility when one lookup approach is not suitable. Compiled binaries are available for Linux, macOS, and Windows, and installation can also be handled with Go.
The trade-off is a narrow, technical workflow. dget keeps searches local and scriptable, but it does not offer API access or export features, so teams seeking a hosted service, integrated automation layer, or polished results-management workflow should choose another tool. It also requires comfort with command-line configuration and local files. Choose dget when cross-platform binaries, bulk domain inputs, TLD combinations, and configurable concurrency matter most; avoid it when browser-based research or broader platform integrations are the priority.
