Our verdict on DentalEye

DentalEye is Windows desktop software for capturing, organizing and enhancing dental images. It is aimed at practices and larger healthcare installations that need to collect images from varied equipment, associate them with patient information and access them through a shared network database. Image sources include X-ray sensors, phosphor plate scanners, panoramic devices and intraoral cameras; users can also import and export image files. Its focus is 2D imaging, so practices that need confirmed 3D or CBCT viewing should look elsewhere rather than assume those workflows are covered.

For clinics with varied hardware or existing practice-management systems, integration breadth is a key consideration. DentalEye lists connections with systems including Dentrix, EagleSoft, Easy Dental, PracticeWorks, Opus Dental and Software of Excellence EXACT, as well as TWAIN-compatible devices and DICOM storage servers. Connecting dental equipment uses separately installed plugins. Image workflows include predefined templates and sequences, comparisons between current and previous patient images, and brightness and contrast adjustment. Those tools make it relevant to practices that want acquisition and basic image handling in one desktop application, rather than a viewer centered on 3D studies.

The vendor distinguishes DentalEye Pro, intended for practices without DICOM communication needs, from DentalEye Enterprise, which adds DICOM communication for hospitals and larger practices. Enterprise functions include DICOM query, retrieve, store, print and modality worklist capabilities. According to the vendor's pricing guidance, prospective customers should contact sales, so buyers need to discuss costs directly. DentalEye states GDPR compliance and offers phone, email and documentation support. Choose it when 2D capture, networked patient image storage and connections to existing dental systems are priorities; choose an alternative if verified CBCT viewing is central to your imaging workflow.
