Our verdict on Delphi
Delphi is a Windows-based integrated development environment for developers building native applications with Object Pascal. It combines visual form design through VCL and FireMonkey, native compilers, code completion, navigation, debugging, unit testing, database connectivity, and REST support. Application targets include Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux, making it suited to Delphi teams that want one Pascal-oriented environment across several deployment targets.
The edition structure maps to increasing application scope. Community Edition includes a streamlined IDE, integrated debugger, visual designers, data access components, and hundreds of visual components. Professional adds desktop and mobile development, VCL and FireMonkey, local database connectivity, and native compilers. Enterprise extends that with client/server and multi-tier applications, REST services, remote and enterprise data sources, and Linux client/server applications. Architect adds database development and management, cloud and web-enabled applications, enterprise data connectivity, and RAD Server capabilities. A 30-day free trial is also available, while the published plans include both a free Community Edition and paid editions.
Delphi’s strongest fit is for teams that value visual application construction, native Pascal output, and integrated access to databases such as InterBase, SQLite, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB. FireDAC, REST client libraries, RAD Server support, AWS, and Microsoft Azure connections extend its platform and service reach. Developers targeting enterprise data workflows or multi-tier systems have a clearer path in Enterprise and Architect than in the Community Edition. Developers who need the IDE itself to run on macOS or Linux should choose another environment, since Delphi is installed on Windows.
