Our verdict on Dayheld
Dayheld is a voice-first journaling and reflection app for iPhone users who want to record or type personal entries and return to them later. The Free plan supports recording or typing, Apple transcription when supported, keyword search, export, deletion, and encrypted iCloud sync. It is positioned as a personal wellness and journaling tool rather than medical care or therapy, making it a fit for reflective personal documentation rather than clinical support.
The product’s pricing keeps core journaling available without a subscription. The Free plan costs $0 always and includes the basic entry, search, data-control, and sync features. Premium costs $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year, with a 14-day free trial. Those paid plans add AI reflections and follow-up questions, the ability to ask questions with cited matching entries, weekly insights and gentle follow-ups, and Life in Review. The annual option lowers the listed monthly equivalent compared with paying monthly, while the free tier remains useful for users who primarily want private voice notes and searchable journal entries.
Dayheld’s strongest distinction is its combination of voice capture and journal recall. Apple on-device transcription, when supported, helps turn recordings into searchable text, while cited matching entries connect answers to words, people, and dates in the journal. Encrypted iCloud sync, export, and deletion controls support a personal data workflow built around Apple’s ecosystem. The trade-off is focus: Dayheld is iOS-only, and its AI layer is reserved for Premium. Users seeking Android access, broader platform coverage, or a journaling tool without subscription-gated reflection features should look elsewhere; iPhone users who want private journaling with optional AI guidance are the clearest fit.
