Our verdict on data.all

data.all is an open-source framework for deploying a data marketplace and collaborative data workspace in AWS accounts. It is designed for analysts, engineers, data scientists, and business users who need to create and catalog datasets, organize glossaries, discover data, request access, and share resources across teams and environments. Deployment can use internet-facing or private VPC architectures, while users can work through the web interface, API, or a self-hosted installation.

The published model centers on open-source self-hosting rather than a hosted SaaS plan. AWS infrastructure and service costs are separate from the framework itself. Within the workspace, teams can upload files to Amazon S3, use AWS Glue crawling, query through Amazon Athena worksheets, import and catalog Redshift datasets, and work with Jupyter notebooks, SageMaker Studio, pipelines, and dashboards. AI-assisted metadata generation adds support for catalog enrichment. These capabilities make data.all a fit for organizations that want marketplace-style discovery and governed access while keeping the operating environment in AWS.

data.all also connects with AWS KMS, IAM, Lake Formation, Cognito, OpenSearch, Aurora, Lambda, ECS, QuickSight, and SageMaker. Groups and IAM or Lake Formation controls support role-based access, while team- and environment-level sharing requests structure the path from discovery to access. Its scope is broad for cataloging, querying, collaboration, and private data sharing, but it does not support transactions. Organizations seeking to publish and govern internal datasets should consider data.all; teams that need seller payments or transaction workflows should choose a marketplace platform built for those requirements instead.
