Our verdict on Daijishō

Daijishō is a free Android frontend for organizing retro game libraries and launching titles through installed emulator applications. It is aimed at individual retro-gaming users with Android phones, tablets, Android TV devices or handheld gaming hardware. The app can import platform definitions and game libraries, synchronize game folders, scrape artwork and metadata, and provide configurable navigation hotkeys for controller-based browsing. It focuses on library management rather than emulation itself.

Its strongest area is the connection between library organization and emulator assignment. Users can choose a player by platform or by individual game, then launch titles through external Android emulators such as RetroArch and other installed applications. The feature set also includes wallpapers, themes, widgets and genres, giving users several ways to structure and personalize a collection. RetroAchievements integration adds another connected service, while backup and restore plus Google Drive integration support moving or preserving library data.

Daijishō is a good fit for Android users who already have their emulator applications and want one interface for importing, organizing and launching retro games. The main limitation is that it is not an all-in-one emulation package: emulator software is not included, so gameplay depends on separately installed applications and their configuration. It is also limited to Android, making it less suitable for households seeking one frontend across different operating systems. Choose Daijishō when Android library management, customization and external emulator launching are the priority; choose an alternative when built-in emulation or broader platform coverage matters more.
