Our verdict on Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077, players take the role of V, a mercenary in the futuristic metropolis of Night City. This paid, single-player role-playing game combines a story shaped by player choices with missions, open-world exploration and character progression. Combat spans firearms and melee weapons, with driving and vehicle combat adding another way to move through and engage with the city. It is aimed at players who want a solo open-world RPG, especially those interested in customizing games with community mods.
Modding is a notable fit: community-made mods can be installed, and REDmod provides tools to create and load mods, including custom sounds, animations, scripts and other content. That gives modders both a route to use community creations and tools for making their own. The game is not open source, so REDmod should be understood as modding support rather than access to the game's source code. Players looking mainly for online multiplayer or an open-source project should look elsewhere.
The PC release is for Windows, and the stated PC requirement specifies 64-bit Windows 10. Controller support is included. The Phantom Liberty expansion adds a separate spy-thriller adventure, but it requires the base game; players seeking that additional story should factor in the separate expansion. Cyberpunk 2077 suits Windows players who want a single-player city RPG with varied combat and modding tools, but is a poor fit for anyone who needs another operating system or online multiplayer.
