Our verdict on Cube

Cube is an analytics platform for teams that need a governed semantic layer across internal business intelligence, embedded analytics, dashboards, workbooks, and AI agents. Teams define metrics, dimensions, joins, and access policies once, then expose those models through SQL, REST, GraphQL, MCP, DAX, and MDX APIs. Cube supports web, API, and self-hosted deployment, with Cube Cloud as its commercial cloud product and Cube Core as its open-source foundation. It fits organizations that need governed access to analytics across multiple data sources and applications.

Pricing follows a freemium model. The Free plan costs $0 and includes connections to any data source, a semantic layer IDE, workbooks and dashboards, and analytics chat. Starter costs $40 per developer per month with production deployment compute, Cube Store caching, Semantic Layer Sync, observability, and high availability. Premium costs $80 per developer per month and adds Explorer and viewer roles, embedded dashboards, embedded analytics chat, and unlimited queries. Enterprise pricing is custom and includes dedicated single-tenant installation, Bring Your Own Cloud, SSO with SAML 2.0, and a 99.990% uptime SLA. Self-serve pricing is monthly, while order-form customers are billed annually.

Cube’s strongest fit is a governed, multi-surface analytics architecture. Its modeling options include code and Visual Modeler, while row- and column-level access controls, pre-aggregation caching, query optimization, version control, development mode, and CI/CD workflows support controlled delivery. Integrations cover PostgreSQL, Snowflake, ClickHouse, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, Databricks, MySQL, Google BigQuery, and other listed systems. Embedded dashboards, analytics chat, and AI agents extend the semantic model into applications and analysis workflows. Teams seeking a complete governed layer should consider Cube; organizations needing only a narrow dashboarding tool may find its scope broader than necessary.
