Our verdict on CS++ Java IDE
CS++ Java IDE is a browser-based Java editor, interpreter, and auto-testing environment for AP Computer Science A students, beginners, and classroom instruction. It supports core AP CSA constructs, selected collections and generic classes, shareable starter-code and example links, optional cloud saving, and live collaborative editing. Because it runs in a browser across web, Windows, macOS, and iOS, it fits classrooms using Chromebooks, iPads, phones, Macs, or Windows PCs. The documented environment does not require a JDK, plugin, or download.
The published plans cover individual learners and schools. The Free plan includes all lessons with an account, the browser-based IDE, and the first mock exam in each course. Student Membership costs $9.99 one time and adds lifetime access, mock exams and practice finals, full question banks, and AI feedback. Certification Prep costs $19.99 one time for lifetime certification-prep access. For institutions, Class costs $299 per classroom per year and includes a classroom license, teacher tools, and student access; Department costs $999 per year; District costs $1,999 per year.
Its strongest distinction is the combination of coding practice and AP CSA preparation: students can write, run, and auto-test programs, work through free-response exercises, and self-grade against rubrics.
