Our verdict on CoreSSH Server
CoreSSH Server is a self-hosted SSH and SFTP server for organizations that need managed file transfer, shell access, and remote administration across Windows, macOS, and Linux. It supports interactive SSH sessions, command execution, SCP, SSH tunneling, remote PowerShell execution, browser-based administration, and virtual users with individual root directories. Its feature set suits IT teams managing multiple servers, users, and access policies rather than teams seeking a hosted file-transfer service.
The pricing structure covers several operational needs. The free Starter edition includes SFTP server hosting, a web administration interface, and personal or commercial use. Professional Annual costs $99 per server annually, while Professional Perpetual costs $399 per server; both add user-specific root directories, Active Directory integration, and priority support. Enterprise adds encryption at rest, FIPS compliance, and enterprise support, with pricing available by quote. A 30-day free trial is also offered. Support for Active Directory and external syslog forwarding helps it fit environments that already use centralized identity and logging systems.
CoreSSH Server’s strongest area is administrative control. Authentication can use passwords, public keys, multi-factor authentication, Active Directory accounts, or certificate-store-based public keys. Administrators can monitor sessions, disconnect users, apply IP allowlists and denylists, enable automatic blocking, and forward detailed logs to external syslog systems. The REST API extends management to servers, users, groups, licenses, logs, and sessions. Choose CoreSSH Server when self-hosting, cross-platform deployment, and granular access management matter. Teams that prefer a fully hosted service or do not want to administer their own server infrastructure should consider another approach.
