Our verdict on CoreBDD
CoreBDD is an open-source .NET BDD framework for C# developers working in xUnit-based test projects. It adds feature and scenario definitions, Given-When-Then step syntax, Scenario Outlines, and data-driven examples to xUnit.net. The framework is suited to teams that want behavior-oriented specifications while keeping test execution within a local .NET workflow. Its Apache-2.0 license also makes it a fit for projects seeking an open-source testing component.
The main strength is its focused authoring and specification workflow. CoreBDD can generate Gherkin specification files from tests, create test stubs from existing .feature files, and scaffold features, scenarios, and steps. The optional command-line tool runs tests with Gherkin-style output, while a separate specification-generation library can emit Gherkin files after test runs. These capabilities support teams that move between executable C# tests and readable feature specifications without adding a broad testing platform.
That focus also defines its limits. CoreBDD integrates with xUnit.net and .NET, but its published scope does not include browser testing, API testing, or parallel execution. The category fit is therefore narrow: choose it when a local, xUnit-based .NET project needs structured BDD syntax, Gherkin generation, and scaffolding. Teams looking for an end-to-end BDD tool that covers browsers, APIs, or parallel test runs should choose a product with those capabilities instead.
